What massage do I need?
Ever wanted a massage but had no idea which one was right? What is the difference between Relaxation, Deep Tissue Massage, and Remedial, anyway?
What is Relaxation Massage?
A relaxation massage helps to loosen up your body and de-stress. It is great for those who have had a hard working week or feel like treating themselves to some TLC! It’s usually a slower very rhythmic massage. The treatment consists of flowing strokes, kneading and gentle manipulations of the muscles performed at your chosen pressure. It is a pain-free way to relax both your muscles and your mind.
Great for, as the name suggests, relaxation, but it is also excellent for pain relief, fibromyalgia, depression & sleep issues.
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is more than just a massage with deep pressure. The goals and techniques are different from a Relaxation massage. While it may help with certain conditions, remember that massage doesn’t always have to hurt or make your body sore to be effective.
At the beginning of a deep tissue massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prepare the muscles. Specific techniques are then applied.
Deep, gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibers using the elbow, forearm, knuckles, and thumbs.
Pressure applied across the grain of a muscle to release adhesions and realign tissue fibers.
Massage therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during a deep tissue massage. You may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on tense areas.
What is a Remedial Massage?
If you have particular muscle tension or chronic pain a remedial massage may be for you. Your remedial massage therapist will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain. They’ll perform some tests to see exactly which muscles are giving you trouble and will tailor a treatment plan to suit. The treatment itself may involve deep tissue work for short periods of time, including trigger point release, but the results are definitely worth it!
Conditions such as sciatica, stiff necks, headaches, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, hip pain and many more complaints can be eased with a remedial treatment.
